“I Make the Difference”

Plans are well underway for the 7th annual Vancouver Island Safety Conference. This year’s conference addresses how woodlands and wood products manufacturing operations can improve their business success by reducing health and safety risks. This conference will provide practical information and tools for supervisors, workers, owner-operators, or operations managers to help better understand the core values and the characteristics behind safety leadership at their workplace.

New this year will be the availability of a video conference option with attendance in Port McNeill for North Island delegates unable to make the trip to Nanaimo.

Conference highlights include a presentation from Ivan Pupulidy “Dumb, Dangerous or Different”, a real time risk assessment (RTRA) and a panel of speakers discussing life lessons learned in the bush and the floor, and how they made the difference with their characteristics behind safety leadership. Discussions are underway for keynote addresses made by government and industry leaders (TBA).

The conference steering committee is made up of representatives from Labour, Industry, the BC Forest Safety Council and WorkSafeBC, and sponsorships from industry allow for free admission for delegates.

There will be a trade show with targeted safety products and services for conference attendees.

More conference information is included in the attached document, along with a registration form to save to your hard drive, fill in and send as an email attachment to: visc@bcforestsafe.org OR you can fill it in, print it out, and fax to 250-741-1068.

Seating is limited; we strongly encourage you to register early to guarantee your seat at the conference. As there is no charge for this conference, please bring a non-perishable food item to donate for the Steelworkers food bank.
