This course is about occupational health and safety for Individual Owner Operators (IOOs) working in the forest sector. Participants should be active in their company's business operations and be knowledgeable of the work activities. The course meets the requirements for both initial and refresher IOO training.

Refresher training is a requirement for eligibility for the WorkSafeBC COR program and must be taken within 3 years of your last successful audit.

This course is offered in English only and participants are expected to fully participate with the training content. Participants will receive a certificate of completion for finishing the course.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing this course, you should be able to:

• Understand basic safety rights and responsibilities
• Understand the SAFE Companies Audit Process and Certificate of Recognition
• Understand tools, templates, and advocacy services available for your business
• Gain the skills to complete your initial or recertification audit submission.

Course Duration

• Four hours. The course is offered either as a monthly webinar/teleconference session, or as a self-paced online course.

Online Delivery (self-directed)

For the online course, learning is self-directed, with flexible 24/7 access and the expectation of participants completing the course within six months of enrollment. Basic computer skills are required - click here for more information.

Webinar / Teleconference Delivery (instructor-led)

During the monthly session, the instructor will share a visual presentation and guide you through the training. Participants will be able to interact with the instructor and other participants in the course to assist in their training and preparation of their audit, which will be completed within the webinar/teleconference. Participants will get the most out of this course if they follow this content in the webinar setting. However this is not required and participants may simply call in to the teleconference. Instructor-led Webinar / Teleconference (two options):

Option 1 - $183.75 (includes 5% GST). Binder with printed materials provided.

·         Includes BC Forest Safety Council notepad zippered binder with printed course materials

• The binder option is suitable for participants that have limited computer skills, or those who do not wish to print out materials in advance.
• The binder is sturdy and can be used for many purposes, such as organizing your safety system after the training.
• Enrollment form must be received at least 2 weeks in advance of the course to allow for shipping and handling.

  Option 2 - $105.00 (includes 5% GST). PDF of course material provided.

• Includes a PDF of course materials that are emailed to the participant prior to the course.
• Suitable for participants who can print materials themselves, or view the PDF on a second monitor during the Webinar/teleconference.
• Note that the materials are an essential component of the course.  If you are unable to navigate multiple computer screens, or print the materials in advance, the binder option is appropriate.
• Enrollment form must be received at least 4 days in advance of the course.
